Narakasura Festival - Goa

This festival rooted in religion, celebrates the destruction of the demon
Narakaasura by Krishna.
Goan youth spend about a week constructing the Narakasura
using hay, sticks, paper, firecrackers and metal
and burn the structure just before dawn on the day before Diwali.
In the week of contruction, every road in every village across Goa
is lined with groups of young people gathering to build their own Narakasura.
The spirit of festivity and community bonding pervades the entire state
during this week.
