The Javanese Batik Gallerie

There are 3 types of Javanese Batik depending on the drawing method
- hand drawn, hand-stamp ( block) printed and machine printed.
After the drawing is done, the dyeing is carried out using the wax-resist method. Below are some hand-drawn batiks, some done using a combination of hand-drawn & stamp printing and others hand drawn on wood.
Until the time I actually saw and examined Hand-drawn Batik,
I was not impressed by this art at all - but having seen it, this form has made an impact.
Beyond my collection, two finer grades of contemporary handmade batik are made
- in the finest grade it is impossible to tell the difference between handdrawing and print.
The use of fluorescent colors -though unappealling to me -
is considered a value addition among the users.
