Patola sarees are the bridal sarees of a few groups in Gujarat and even today
are the most expensive saris in India, ranging upwards of USD3000.
There are only two surviving weaving families in Patan
that continue this craft of double Ikat.
Acquired from the one of the two surviving weaving families of Patan.
The piece is about 12 inches by 14 inches,is worn out in several places
It is framed in glass on both sides to preserve it.
Sarees fabrics are usually fine and finding
an exceptionally old piece such as this one is very rare.
