Zari Weavings from Banaras in the North
have tradionally been among the best.
This particularpiece shows design elements
that suggest the english influence.
It is a extremely heavy piece on account of the metalwork
which is all over the field.
I acquired this sari (and the magenta piece) from my jeweler,
where old saris with a high content of silver usually land up,
after being sold by the family for the price of the silver content in it.
The sari is burnt, in order to extract the silver from the textile !!
Mercifully this one was saved ...
