Heirloom Embroidery circa 1900, Gujarat-Kutch, India

This piece was originally an heirloom 'chaniya' or long skirt.
It was converted into a jacket around 1980 and
so we see bits of new fabric in the inner collar and button line.
The original material is 'khaddad' and all the threads have natural dyes.
A synthetic pink patch of thread in spot is seen,
as a 'special' adornment
since in those days,
synthetic dyed threads were expensive
