This diadem or crown is worn by a Tibetan Lama for ritualistic purposes at ceremonies.
Each wooden leaf has a painting of a Buddhist deity or a Tara - usually painted by the Lama himself as a religious offering.
The back of each section is inscribed with the Tibetan Buddhist mantra 'Om Mani Peh me hum'.
Paintings of this age and on such an article are rare.
