Antique Bhutan Kera circa 1900
Asset Code 135
This handwoven Kera from Bhutan has all natural dyes.
Note that the weaving is not symmetrical - the left half has repeating bands
in a pattern that is different from that on the right half.
This affirms the rural origins of the piece that wa smade for self- consumption rather than commercial trade.

The front and the back of the piece are identical and I hope that I have taken pictures of the correct side of the textile!
Woven separately in 3 parts as the central panel and two border panels
probably on a back strap narrow loom, and then stitched together.
The stitching should have provided the clue about the front and back of the piece,
but to my eyes, the back seems to have a tighter weave and neater look...
